REVIEW: Raid 2 – A decent thrilling experience

RAID 2 MOVIE REVIEW

RATING – ⭐️⭐️.5

Raid 2 is an average sequel to Raid. The film’s first half is slow paced and lackluster in its screenplay. It is not engaging enough to keep you hooked thoroughly. The second half is much better, as it contains impactful dialogues. However, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the film doesn’t quite reach the excellence of its predecessor.

The intense and superb confrontational scenes between Saurabh Shukla and Ajay Devgn were the soul of Raid , and that same thrill and camaraderie is missing in the face-off between Ajay Devgn and Riteish Deshmukh, though their performances are top notch.

Even the climax lacks the shock value and power that Raid delivered, but nevertheless, Raid 2 is decent. This is what happens when you deliver a strong first installment, the next set of installments need to carry the same weightage like the first one. Raid was superb while Raid 2 is decent. If taken as a standalone film, Raid 2 is very good. If taken in comparison to its first, Raid 2 can be routed as an average affair.

It is surely going to do well at the box office. Ajay is superb while Riteish is terrific. Amit Sial is a suprise while Vaani Kapoor does a neat job. Overall, it’s a decent experience for the cinegoers.

Rating: 2.5/5.

Ajay Devgn is in fine form as always, his dialogue delivery and intensity are spot on. #RiteishDeshmukh performs well, but he doesn’t come across as threatening enough in the role of a corrupt politician. #AmitSial act is top notch whereas Saurabh Shukla feels underutilized, and Vaani Kapoor’s character seems forced and unnecessary.

#RajkumarGupta’s direction lacks freshness,it felt throughout the film as if he was remaking Raid-1 though on a much larger scale. There was no visible attempt to bring anything new or take any creative risks in his direction.

Overall, Raid 2 is a strictly one time watch affair but if you go in with the high expectations set by Raid 1, you’re likely to come out disappointed.

At the box office, it’s expected to perform far better than it merits largely due to Raid 1’s popularity and the high value of the franchise.
